A teenage boy was found dead just days following being wrongly accused of taking the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.
The investigation learned how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."
In a statement read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.
An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was never taken in the first place".
News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".
The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.
She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.
"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his passing.
His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".
When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.
The inquest heard that one young adult urged the teenager to end his life.
She had no concerns on the evening before he died, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".
She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is completely devastated".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".
The inquest heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.
On 8 November, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.
After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.
The court learned his family said they never receive that message.
Lead investigator informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.
"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.
"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."
The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
